COMPUTERS CAN'T FEEL
(Lyrics)

They said, “The computer is a model of the human mind”
I read – all the books on math’s and logic I could find
I tried, to stop being subjective and think rationally
Inside, I felt an unseen power taking hold of me
There was something missing
Could my information be wrong?
Life was slowly ebbing, and I felt I’d soon be gone
I’d lost some secret, hidden key
What had I forgotten? What was me?
I must deduce what it could be
Then a voice in my head started screaming out
Repeating endlessly:
“Computers can’t feel
Their life isn’t real
It’s part of the deal
Computers can’t feel”
I meant to reduce the case to facts that I could analyse
I went to see my local doctor seeking his advice
I said, “Tell me how to get this damn computer out of my head!”
Instead, he asked me whether I had ever wet the bed
I saw him frowning
As he wrote down my name
“We’d better get you treated
You’re undoubtedly insane
You paranoid schizophrenic – no hope for you!
Better cut out these delusions, cause reality’s true”
What is reality? What is truth?
Truth is a conclusion drawn logically from valid premises
What are valid premises?
Valid premises are conclusions drawn logically from valid premises
Aargh! Where will it end?
Where did it begin?
Repeating endlessly:
“Computers can’t feel
Their life isn’t real
It’s part of the deal
Computers can’t feel”
(Instrumental)
“Not real” – there’s an agonizing, crushing thunder in my brain
“Can’t feel” – then I realise that’s all nonsense, cause I’m feeling
pain
“Not real” – No! I’ve got to let it flood me, overwhelm my mind!
Goodbye! The computer is irrelevant, it’s left behind!
And though the pain was burning
It was more than real
I was slowly thawing, and I knew that I could feel!
I’d found the key that I had lost
My reputation was the cost
I didn’t quite know where to go
But I screamed to the world and I wrote it down
I had to let them know:
Computers can’t feel
Their life isn’t real
Cop out of the deal!
Computers can’t feel
