THIS WORLD TODAY (Lyrics)
© John Cologon 2019
Watched the clock and saw the minutes tick away
Slowly creeping closer to midday
Time to take a break
Had all I can take
Had my lunch and took a walk in The Domain
A crowd had gathered there in spite of all the rain
To listen to some guy
I wondered why
Shook his hair waved his arms and freaked right out
I wondered what he had to shout about
But any way
This is what he had to say
All you people need to turn your heads this way
Everybody better listen to what I say
Time to make a move
Show the world it can improve
Let’s work together and remix this world today
We need a new regime to fix this world today
If all people were the same
Maybe what he
Said would not have been in vain
but as it is
All the world will fight and many will die
'Til once again they're quieted with a lie
And so the new regime
Will turn out just as mean
Watched the clock and saw I hadn't time to stay
As I turned to go I saw the masses sway
Think I'd better get away
Hide from this world today
(Instrumental)
Left it too late to run and hide
Couldn't get away even though I tried
Can't escape our fate
Tangled in a web of hate
Concentration camp inside my cell
Waiting for this war of hate to quell
Waiting for the hour
Of the next rise to power
So, in the end all the fighting dies away
Superficial changes will not stay
Back where we began
Doing the best we can
Watched the clock and saw the minutes tick away
Slowly creeping closer to midday
Time to take a break
Had all I can take
Yeah, it’s hard to contemplate This World Today
Ooh, but I don’t wanna denigrate This World Today
So, how do we illuminate This World Today
When using force will seal its fate – This World Today
